Hult International Business School-In 1964, Hult International Business School was established as America's first corporate university, then known as the Arthur D. Little School of Management. ADL focused on delivering a practical business education for managers. The teaching pedagogy adopted was different from other business schools because it emphasized "action learning" -- applying classroom theory in the real world. This methodology was honed over 40 years and is central to Hult's pioneering approach to practical business education today.

IBM Almaden Services Research-Nowhere is the growth of the services economy more apparent than at IBM, where our global services business has grown to represent nearly half of IBM's overall business in little more than a decade. Our goal is to gain a deeper understanding of the problems faced by service organizations, by leveraging IBM research expertise and collaborating with university researchers and business partners, so that we can address the large-scale, people- and information-intensive problems of these increasingly important organizations. Our efforts are focused on understanding the problems of service organizations from the perspectives of people, practices, information and technology to provide new opportunities for revenue, cost savings and to improve workers' lives.

IBM SSME (Service Science Management & Engineering)-Service Science is becoming a strategic area of scientific study at IBM Research. Historically, IBM has been a leader in applying mathematics, statistics, and operations research to traditional manufacturing problems such as supply chain management, transportation optimization and logistics management. While these concerns continue to be of importance to manufacturing companies, the shift towards service-based economies in certain parts of the world are bringing new business concerns to focus. Industry leaders need guidance on how to innovate, manage, evaluate and optimize their service businesses.
IBM Research is actively working with the world-wide research and academic communities to help define research directions for Service Science. These activities include new academic initiatives such as Service Science Management and Engineering (SSME) and sponsoring several conferences in this area to stimulate research and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
